Cryptic Points are converting to ZEN
Published 06/21/2012 07:59 PM   |    Updated 07/11/2012 05:26 PM
Where did Cryptic Points go?
Q: Why are C-Points going away?
To simplify the currency management for the majority of our customers, who use ZEN. Unnecessary confusion was introduced by the conversion of ZEN into Cryptic Points. Unifying onto a single currency will simplify currency transfers for all players.
Q: What is ZEN?
ZEN is the name of the virtual currency used to fund in-game purchases throughout all the games published by Perfect World Entertainment. ZEN is used to purchase items in each of the games' cash shops in order to enhance the users' gameplay experience; in some games, ZEN is converted to a currency more in keeping with the game aesthetic.
Q: When is this happening and can I still purchase Cryptic Points?
The conversion will happen during the game maintenance scheduled for Thursday July 12, 2012. After the conversion, it will no longer be possible to purchase Cryptic Points, and if you wish to purchase cash shop items you will need to use ZEN. In order to purchase ZEN, you will need to have a Perfect World account or link your existing Cryptic account to a Perfect World account.
Please see our Account Linking FAQ for more details on how to link your account.
Q: What payment methods can I use?
We accept credit cards and PayPal along with other billing options. For the complete list, please visit https://billing.perfectworld.com/options.
Q: Can I still buy Virtual C-Points cards? What happens if I activate one after the conversion?
Virtual C-Points cards will no longer be available for purchase. If you have one and activate it after the conversion takes place, the Cryptic Points on the card will automatically be converted into ZEN on your account.
Q: Can I gift ZEN to other players, like I was able to gift Virtual Cryptic Point cards?
Not directly. You can send them money via PayPal, or you can purchase Perfect World ZEN Cards from a variety of reputable retailers.
Q: Can I still purchase Cryptic Points through Steam?
Cryptic Points will no longer be available through Steam, however, when logged in through Steam, you will be able to purchase ZEN directly within Cryptic Games using Steam Wallet. ZEN purchased for Champions Online or Star Trek Online using Steam Wallet will go directly into your ZEN balance in-game.
Q: How do I transfer ZEN to Star Trek Online or Champions Online?
Once the purchase is confirmed successful, please visit https://billing.perfectworld.com/mywallet, log into your Perfect World account, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Q: I still have a Cryptic Points balance, what will happen to it?
All Cryptic Points will be converted to an equivalent value in ZEN. For example, if you have 80 Cryptic Points ($1.00 in value) before the conversion, you will have 100 ZEN ($1.00 in value) after the conversion. We will multiply your Cryptic Point balance by 1.25 to get your new ZEN balance.
Q: What happens to any fractional points that result from the conversion? We will round up any fractional points. For example, if you have 81 Cryptic Points, it would multiply out to 101.25 ZEN. We’ll round this up to 102 ZEN. You will not lose any value in the conversion, and may in fact gain a small amount of value.
Q: Cryptic Points were available in multiple types before. Can you explain them again?
ZEN transferred into either Star Trek Online or Champions Online arrived in those games as “Single Game” Cryptic Points. This means that the points could only be spent in the one game to which they were transferred. Points earned through promotions or through Gold member stipends were also “Single Game” points that applied only to the game in which they were earned. Cryptic customers could also purchase Cryptic Points directly; these were considered “All Cryptic” Cryptic Points, and could be spent in either Star Trek Online or Champions Online. They were not tied to a single game.
Q: How are the “Single Game” and “All Cryptic” nature of points affected by the conversion?
"Single Game” Cryptic Points will become “Single Game” ZEN. Any “All Cryptic” Cryptic Points will become “All Cryptic” ZEN, still usable in either Star Trek Online or Champions Online. In other words, there will be no change in your buying power or buying flexibility.
Q: Is there any way to see how many of my points are “Single Game” and how many are “All Cryptic” points?
Not at this time.
Q: Because the amount I have will go up, what does this mean for C-Store prices?
C-Store prices will be adjusted to reflect the conversion. It may appear more expensive at first, because all prices are going to be multiplied by 1.25, like your Cryptic Point balance. For example, an item priced at 80 Cryptic Points would be re-priced at 100 Zen. This makes the price of this item look larger, but it is the same value as before.
Q: So are any prices going up?
Some prices may be altered either up or down by the game team on this date. Price changes are not related to this conversion, however, and will be clearly communicated in the game release notes.
Q: In the past, when I purchased ZEN and I transferred it to STO or CO, I only got 80% of what I bought. Will this continue after the conversion?
No. The new conversion rate will be 100 ZEN : $1.00. This means that if you purchase 1000 ZEN and transfer it to Star Trek Online, your in-game balance will increase by 1000 ZEN.
Q: As a Gold Member, what will happen to my monthly stipend?
You will continue to receive the stipend as long as you are a Gold member; however, instead of 400 Cryptic Points you will receive 500 ZEN. Please note that the value of the stipend will remain unchanged, and the stipend currency will remain game-specific.
Q: I have a Cryptic account that I have not yet linked to a Perfect World account. How do I purchase ZEN?
When this conversion rolls out, we will no longer be selling Cryptic Points. The only way to purchase ZEN is to have a Perfect World account. We recommend going through the account linking process as described here.
Q: Am I being forced to link my Cryptic account to a Perfect World account with this change?
Not right now. For now you are welcome to keep your Cryptic account, but you will not be able to purchase points until you link. Within the next few months, we plan to require you to link your Cryptic account in order to play Cryptic games. Now would be a good time to go through the linking process, to avoid any interruption to your game play. You can learn more about account linking here.
Q: I was on the Tribble Test Shard and the C-Store currency is ZEN but the prices haven't changed. What's going on?
We are still rolling out the conversion to Tribble and the prices should be updated soon. Please bear with us during this process. Prices on Tribble are not a reflection of how prices will look in-game once this conversion is complete.
NOTE: The ZEN conversion and C-Store price changes will take place simultaneously on Holodeck and CO Live so you should not see a discrepancy at that time.
Q: What happens to the Dilithium / Questionite Currency Exchange in-game?
All open orders in the Exchange will be automatically withdrawn as part of the ZEN conversion process. Any C-points or Dilithium/Questionite that were escrowed as part of an open order will be returned to the player’s Exchange Balance. The ZEN in your exchange balance will be converted from C-points at the 1.25 to 1 rate. Your in-game Exchange log will show the orders being automatically withdrawn.
Will the Dilithium / Questionite price range be adjusted?
After the conversion, the price ranges will be 25-500 per ZEN for STO, and 50-500 for CO.
